Is College Worth Graduating With So Much Debt?

in Student Loans

It might be the beginning of summer but if you are going to need money for school next year, now is the time to be working on it. While some are looking for back to school grants for moms, others are out trying to find jobs. Money is tough wherever you live now and many folks are job hunting.

Last year President Obama gave a speech where he mentioned the importance of mothers returning to school. People interpreted that speech to mean that there were going to be special Obama school grants for women and moms. That isn’t the case as he has his plate full in other areas and there are no grants that have come about just because he was elected.

The high school seniors this year are in an especially tough predicament if many of them are unable to get summer jobs. They need that money along with their school loans just to have a chance of going to college. Without both of them, many students may come up short and not be able to afford it.

college grantsCollege is important but the price has gotten so high that some students much be wondering whether it is really worth it. At best, they will graduate with a degree that will leave them in debt for years. At worst, they will graduate in debt and still not be able to get a job if the economy doesn’t recover.

It used to be said that everyone should have a college degree if possible. But with it costing so much, maybe there is something to be said for learning a trade and never having to go in debt for that loan. When college aged kids graduate so young and have debt to pay off, it robs them of a bit of their youth and innocence. Maybe for some, college is not the right choice.
